LONG LANE DAIRY

Long Lane Dairy supplies hand-crafted sheep's milk products to delicatessens and restaurants across the UK.

The milk is carefully sourced from two farms. One for winter milk supply and one for summer milk supply.

Each week the chiller van goes to the farm and as the sheep leave the parlour, buckets of milk are loaded up and brought back to the dairy to be processed as quickly as possible. In the summer the sheep are out in the fields grazing and there are notable changes throughout the season which will be partly as a result of the variability of the make-up of the pasture they are eating.

During the winter the sheep are in a large barn out of the weather, being fed a blend specifically designed for dairy sheep.

Milk is the one and only ingredient so the quality is paramount. Aside from the important consideration of animal welfare, good milk comes from healthy well-cared for sheep. Each week the farmer will give an update on how the ewes are and any changes.

Being part of a positive farming story where animal husbandry and environmental impact are high on the agenda combined with thoughtful choices being made at every point in the process is most important.

It starts when the ewes are put to the tup (male sheep) through collecting the milk, to processing it in the tiny dairy to seeing a jar of yoghurt or packet of cheese on the shelf.

Every step is considered.
